Troubleshooting
Fixes for the common errors and setup mistakes.
An "Owner" error on screen
Error: Owner Is Not a Valid Pawn or Character.
BPC_Compass was added to something that isn't a pawn, such as a PlayerController. Remove it and add it to your character Blueprint.
A "Camera" error on screen
Error: Camera Pawn Is Not Valid or Not Exist Line Trace for Mark Faild
The pawn has no Camera Component. Add a Camera (usually on a Spring Arm) to the character.
The keys do nothing
Make sure all six input actions are in your IMC, and that this IMC is added with Add Mapping Context at BeginPlay (see the demo character).
Pinging an object makes a plain mark
Either BPC_AutoMarker isn't on the actor the trace hits, or the object's collision doesn't block the Visibility channel.
Marker is on the compass but not on screen
Check Show In Screen Space, the min/max show distances and Show Behind Wall. The Player type, for example, is hidden on screen by default.
The marker color won't change
Player and Player Mark always use the player color; change it under Player Marker Color. For other types, use Icons Tint.
Marks land in the sky or very far away
The trace hit nothing, or hit something far off. Lower Mark Range and make sure floors and walls block Visibility.
Every default in this guide was read directly from MultiplayerCompass.uproject in Unreal Engine 5.8.
